Second Maori Game Planned For Levin The playefs and committee connected with the Maori teairi which travelled to Otaki . on" Satutday were so satisfied with the day that a further match in the district, on August 20 or 31, may result if the Wellington Rugby Union permits. This was conveyed to the HoroWhenua Rugby Union at last night's meeting .in a letter from the Wellington Maori rugby man-' agement committee, which stated that all were thoroughly pleased with the game and thanked the union for making the facilities available. , The president, Mr. R. L. Robinson, said that such a game would0 be a major attr action and he congratula,ted the Otaki officials on the way in which they had conducted the games last Saturday. It was decided to accept the game for August 20, but that the senior competition games be proceeded with on that day also in view of the inadvisability of Molding up the competition at such an important stage. It was decided that the Maori match be played in Levin, it being pointed out by Mr. T. Winiata that arrangements were being made in Levin for the entertainment of the players by the Maori people. Saturday's Reu. Games The fourth grade selector, Mr. J. L.- Stevenson, was appointed manager of the Horowhenua team to play Manawatu fourths at Levin on Saturday, and Mr. A. Haley manager of the visiting team. It was decided that as the game was a representative one, it be the main fixture ori the domain. The players are to assemble at 2.30 p.m: Admission at the gate will be ls and ls for the grandstand. In regard to the Colts' game at Palmerston . North, it was stated that a bus would leave 'Levin at 1 p.m. and seats would be available at a cost of 5s return for spectators wishing to travel. Friendly Matches An application was received from Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., for the use of Rugby Park on August 20 for- the firm's annual game with Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. It was stated that the match was scheduled for 3 p.m. The application was granted. Permission was given Rahui to play a friehdly game with Kimbolton on. Saturday at the Otaki racecourse. Awahau was also granted permission to play a friendly game • with the Pioneer Club, Masterton, on September 17. The Otaki Club was granted permission to play Petone on September 3 at Petone. Protest To N.Z. Union In connection with the protest by the Rahui club against a decision of the union, the New Zealand Rugby Union wrote asking for a full report of the referee who had controlled the game. It added that the sworn statements by ttvo spectators who had viewed the match could not be accepted as evidence. It asked also for the forwarding of a protest fee of £1, which would be returned if it was found that the appeal was not frivolous. It was mentioned that the referee had since resigned from the* association, but it was decided to request him to submit a full report as requested bv the New Zealand union. General Matters. In regard to the request from the Shannon Borough Council for a raising of the gate percentage from 10 to 20 per cent, it was decided that a reply be sent to the effect that the question of gate percentages would be raised at the next annual meeting of the union. The Wellington union wrote stating that it would be prepared to send its senior second fifteen to Horowhenua on September 17. It was decided that the fixture be played at Paraparaumu arid that , the curtain-raiser be arranged by the Paraparamu club. The Wairarapa union wrote regretting that it was unable to arrange a date to play Horowhenua this season owing to the disarrangement of club games through a nostponement. The Rangitikei union advised that it could not play the scheduled match with Horowhenua at Levin on August 20 as Hawke's Bay had offered that date for a challenge match for the Bebington Shield, and as that was the only date available the union had accepted it. It hoped that arrangements could be made for a game next season, and thanked the Horowhenua union for offering it the match. The Otaki Maori Racing Club wrote stating that no objection wquld be raised- by the club to the union taking a gate at the racecourse, but requested that every effort be- made to prevent persons from climbing over or standing on the fences to view any game which might be played on the course. Thanks were expressed for the season tickets issued by the union j . and it was stated that these had' been handed to the president and caretaker. It was decided to submit an early challenge for the Bebbington Shield to the Dannevirke^ _union, with the suggestion that the game be played in July of next year.
