Received Sunday, 7 p.m. SWAN'SEA, Ju'iy 30. The most pleasing featnre of Kew Zealand's comfortable total of six for 360 against Glamorgan, champion county, at Swansea, was 165 not out by Wallace who batted delightfully in his best form for 5 hours 5 minutes (22 fours). . It was his fifth century of the tour, the first he has scored since May 19 when he made 197 against Cambridge University. After reaching 910 at the end of May in eight innings,' he made only 231 in 21 innings. Throughout this long period of indifferent form and some- bad luck, Wallace remained just as cheerful and unperturbed as he was modest and unassuming during the height of his run making. Everyone in the New Zealand team is beaming at his return to run getting and the effortless manner in which he hit eight •Glamorgan bowlers all round th.e ground. Hadlee was glad to win the toss for though the piteh was easy paced today, it has the reputation of crumbling on the second day. Rain delayed play for 20 minutes towards the end of the day. Mediocre Start. New Zealand 's innings did not begin too happily for within 12 minutes Sutclilfe was caught at silly mid-off by Wooller off Hever and half an hour later Scott, playing forward to Hever, was brilliantly caught at square leg by Clift. Hever, who is a medium pacer, was bowling well and at this stage was 5/2/6/2. Wallace began his innings with a quietly patted single to leg and it was his only scoring shot in 35 minutes. Hadlee, however, was relishing Wooller, also a medium pacer, and in two o'vers hit him for 16 including three boundaries to the of£ and on. The New Zealand total was 50 in 55 minutes and after Wallace had played himself in, he took nine off Watkins, a medium left armer, in one over. He ! pulled a full toss to the boundary and 1 olf-drove a half volley, a lovely rhythuiical shot. Smith Displays Caution. Smith once again put his iirst bali through the siips for four. After his two unfortunate innings at Sheffield, however, Smith was taking no chances. He gave a little more thought to hia shots and runs began to come. Wallace celebrated readliing his highest score since his 62 against Sussex at the end of May when he was trying for his thousand, by straight driving Wooller twice to the boundary. He patted Watkins for a single to reaeh the seventies, pulled a full toss from Muncer to enter the eighties and reached the century after 3| hours by hitting Emrys- Da.vies, th.e;44-^eariold fiiow left ariqe:r,; ali round' Ih^^rijlkefkij lt was delightful batting inoludihg. tiurteen fours. : ' , ' At tea New Zehland were four for 246, Wallace 10l, Smith 26. In the next 55 minutes , tliey added 62, Smitk reaching 51 from two' overthrows, in J. hour 55 minutes. Then rain, which haa been threatening for a quarter of an hour, sent the players ofi the field. Smith was eventuaily ieg be'fore to Hever after batting hours . (seven fours) and Rabone caliing for a second, was run out. There was some curiosity why -Wooller did not take- a new bail when it was due at 209. He used the old one to the end of the day though a new ball suits Hever. ": Seores: — NEW ZEALAND.
