No Appeal Against Death Sentence

LONDON, July 31. No appeal against the death sentence on John George Haigh had been lodged when the time limit expired at midnight last night. Failing notice oi appeal, the usual statutory inquiries into the mental condition of a con demned murderer will be held early t next week. The inquiry will be con ' ducted by a panel of specialists appointed by the Home Seeretary, Air Chuter Ede, who is compelled to abidc ' by their verdiet. The panel does not have to consider whether. a murderer is sane at the time of the crime but whether he is sane after the crime because an insane- person is not in a con dition to urge * any ground why thr execution should not be earried out.
