Iittle Movement in Values The heavy raiiis over the eountry on Thursday ixight , and early yesterday morning saw the sheep yarded in xvet condition tijr the live stock sale. in Feilding. Conditions improved by the time selling eommeneed and in the fat stoek penSj operators found that many of the sheep were lacking finish and often very short of the condition to qualify as fats. In the wethers there were a few pens of choiee young sheep of£ crops and these sold from 54s 4d to 58s 7d, for px-ime Down cross sorts. These values were in keeping with the quality and weiglits. The hogget mutton was patchy and mostly small sorts with tops selling from 43s 7d to 45-s ld. In the ewe mutton section there were several pens of maiden sheep of appealing quality but the mafket was slightly weaker for other sorts. Store sheep sold readi'ly but here again tht quality was weaker in many instances but competition was keen. The in-lamb dwes sold freely with 2-ths making to 60s. Yearling steers in the station cattle departmeut sold to £10 aud a line of A.A. bullocks, rising 4-yr. olds, made £17 8s. The first ox beef seen in the yards for some time attracted competition but the seleetion was limited to three, the best being an A.A. steer which made £22 15s. Fat Sheep (Juite a number of the 1100 head of , fat sheep yarded fell short of the quality buyefs iooked for aud early in the sale the bidding suggested an easing in values of substantial proportions. However the position was not as bad as prices suggested, the lower values operating being entirely due to the fact that the quality was lacking. The top weth ers off crops were in prime order but not big while most of the hogget mutton was small and rather light. Ewe mutton was of mixed quality with the exception of some nice maideu 2-ths. Many of the pens were of sheep of ihe lighter order and quality in tho •'•hoggets was not so strong. The •rec.sMed saies were: Wether hoggets, 160 at 38.1; 65 at 38s 6d; 63 at 38s IOd; 50 at 4is 4d; 20 at 29s; 30 at 40s 6d; 101 at 41s 6d; 16 at 40s; 29 at 41s IOd; ewe hoggets, 97 at 46s 4d; 53 at 37s 9d; Down cross hoggets, 18 at 33s 7d; in-lamb ewes, 139 "4 and ,5-yr. at 44s 4d; 115 4-th to 4-yr. at 45s 9d; 72 6-yr. at 35s 6d; 113 do at 30s ld; 98 2 and 4-th to 4-yr. at 54s 3d; 91 m.a. at 46s 6d; 95 5 and 6-yr. at 50s 3 d and 46s 6d; 46 m.a. at 45s 6d; 227 5-yr. at 45s 3d; 54 2-th at 59s 6d; 55 2-th at 60s; 28 2-th at 46s 3d. Station Uattle Yearling steers made up most of the entries in the station cattle department which totalled round about 300 head. The quality of the yearlings was fairly even and they were in good order. They sold from £8 7s to £10. Of the grown cattle a pen of 4-oft A.A. steers w$,s tradecl at £17 8s. These were not big cattle but were well bred aud in good condition. Tlie detailed saies were: 37 4-oJ'£ A.A. steers at £17 8s; yearling A.A. steers, 34 at £9 14s; 34 at £10; 45 at £9 18s; 32 at £9 6s; 19 at £8 7s; 23 Hereford at £9 15s; 17 2-off A.A. heif'ers at £9 15s. Dairy Cattle Priees obtaining in the dairy cattle department were largely unchanged and were related to the quality of the cows and'heifers olfering.
