TIMARU, July 29. No interpections, frequent bursts of applause and almost unanimous ap-. proval for a resolution against the referendum proposal were the featnres of a public meeting in the Bay Hall, i Timaru, tonight when the case against j compulsory national service was presented hy Rev. E. S. Hoddinott, Methoj dist minister of Christchurch, . supportea bv Messrs A. B. Grant and I. Carruthers, also of Christchurch. More than 60 persons were present. Mr. Hoddinott emphatically denied making a ' ' vitriolic attaek" on ^the agencies supplying news to New Zealand newspapers when he spoke at Oamaru on Thursclay night. He claimed that the report ' ' was nonsense, ' ' and said that Jie had commented on the need for U.N.O. to aet up an independ eni news agency to give both sides to the overseas news.
