Coveted Award For Scout Who Is Bedridden

HAMILTON, July 28. A higlily coveted Scout award has been made by the Empire Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan, to a member of the St. Francis (handicapped) Scout Group, Waikato Hospital, aecording to advice received by Mr. L. H. Southwick, distriet eommissioner, today. He is John Andrews, ^aged 19, son of' Mr. A. Andrews, of Rotorua, who has beeu awarded the meritorious eonduct medal of the Scout movement. Shortly after the visit of the Chief Scout in January of this year, John Andrews was reeomfoended • for the award. Despite the f aet , that he has been iii hospital' for the past four years and been so ill that he has been unable . to rise from his pillow, John has dispiayed the highest courage in continuing to work for, the movement in Group St. Francis. The group is unique in New Zealand' although in other centres there are hospital patrols attached to outside Scout groups. The group varies in size from tinie to time aecording to the admission of Scout patients to the hospital.
