At the Wellington Town Hall a few nights ago. Boh Hakaraia appeared in an amateur boxing bout, being matched against a very worthy opponent in B. Elley. After a very sound performance by both lads Bob lost the verdict on the referee's casting vote.

On Thursday night the Tuis marching teaan continued its s^ries of fortnightly card evenings in the Druids' Hall. Again the organisers were favoured with a pleasing attendance. Prize-winners were Mes•dames P. Bevan, S. Brooks and H. Cole, and Messrs J. Winter and P. Gurney.
Much Local Flooding. Almost lorrential rain t'hroughout Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday morning caused much local flooding. The Waitohu Stream appears to have given the most trouble and many residents were greatly inconyenienced as a result. Some farms in the Convent Road area were almost inundated, and flood waters were also across the road there and Tasman Road. Reports to hand state that- the jflood waters on the low-lying portion of Manakau Beach Road were the'highest seen fox many years, anyi-, school children in several instances were unable to connect with their buses. ' Scjiool To Hold Gala. A commixtee representing the State School Committee, the jstaft and the Home and School Association ' wa s recently appointed to meet to consider. ways and means of raising funds for immediate requirements at the school. At a meeting last night it was agreed that a gala day and Paddy's market be held; an-d the date was tentativeiy agreed on as Saturday, Octotoer 15'; Many suggestions were advanced and oft'ers of help forthcoming, and an appeal for further assistance is to be made. The function promises to he quite a large one, and the occasion should see good results forthcoming. The cause is one that will come in for a generous measure of support.
Road Improvements Undertaken. Improvements are being carriad out to several roads throughout the district. The continued wet weather is not assisting -the work and many ipotorists are suffering extra inconvenience. At Rangiuru Elliott's bend has been removed and the road has been given attention from the bend to Paremata Street corner. Much filling has been neeessary and at times a "sticky mess" has been encountered. At Te Horo the road to the heaeh is receiving muchneede'd attention, with widening and filling also bfiing undertaken. Much of the hillside 4s being removed ne'ar the Forest Lakes entrance, halfway up the Manakau Hill, and when thls task is completed a nasty bend will cease to exist.
