Novelty Evidence Used In Court Claim
WELLINGTON, July 29. Described by Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., as "novelty evidence," a tape recording machine was recently used in the Wellington Magistrates' Court in the course of a civil action over. the sale of a motor vehicle. The recorder wes played in court by Plaintiff, who said that he had hooked it up to a te'ephone party line with the permission of the Post and Telegraph Department. Ks had thus recorde'd statements by defendant and played the recording in court to support his case. N Defendant admitted that it was his voice on the recorder. The magistra.te" accepted 'the evidence. The case was a claim for £62 for an alleged breaeh of a warranty concerning the sale of a motor van. Tlie magistrate, in a reserved judgment, foun'd in favour of plaintiff, awpi'ding £50.
