Horowhenua Women Reps. Win Hockey Trophy
Persistent attacking and good solo work at the circle gave the Horowhenua women hockey rep^psentative's a dfeserved win over Wellington by four goals to three when they met at Levin on Saturday.' They 'thus annexed the Baker Parata Memorial Cup, which has been held by Wellington for several years. The contest is played annually and Saturday's game was one of the most even yet witnessed. Each side had three goals to within ten minutes of the end of the game, and then Horowhenua netted the one which gave them the honours. Te first goal went to Wellington early in the opening spell, B. Spivy, inside-right, through clever stick play, penetrating, fthe d-efence to score from close in. Horowhenua soon equalised, R. Hakaraia, insideleft, scoring "from a pass from B. Henderson, cehtre-forward. Then in quick succession B. Henderson scored two well-timed goals, leavHorowhenua leading 3 — 1 at half-/ time. • Wellington forced a penaJty bully early in the second half, and J. Dixon,- centre-forward, , beat B. Hakaraia in the bully to run the ball into the net. Wellington's equalising goal* came when J. A'Court accepted a pass near the circle to rush in ahd "net. * The ma'fcch was now even, both sides making fast runs until R. Hakaraia soloed her way through the Wellington defence to score the winning' goal. For the winners, F. Royal was otitstanding at cehtre-half, others to s'how to advantage .being O. Kingi, R. Hakaraia, B. Henderson, M. Bevan and goalkeeper, B. Hakaraia. .
