Municipal Band's Membership Grows Steadily
A rise in the strength of the Levin Municipal Band from 21 to 31 is reported by the bandmaster,. Mr. C. C. Banfield, in his review of activities during the past year.. The avetage attendance at rehearsals and parades was 27, which Was yery satisf actory.- . Three learners were at present being taught, while Thursday night practices for junior members had be'en f airly well attended. Parades of all kinds during the year had numbered 78, continues? Mr. Banfie'd, while actual play-ou'is 'totalled 27, As a result of Christmas caroling a sum of £72 was £&ised and (;hei p\ihlic was to be tnanked for this generous support. The library had heep extended and it- was hoped to purchase further music- as the funds permitted. ■ Further progress was limited by having only one fuli practice weekly, a shortage of instruments and access to the bandroom, says Mr. Banfield. "it is 'pleasing to note .that a new set of Instruments will sdoh by arriving. EVbry 'orie is at present taken up and no new players can be accepted or learners taught, while there are still a number waiting to join. It is hoped ■that eventually we will have a larger bandroom in which to practice and meet socially." Mr. Banfield thanked playing members for their support, the citizens' committee for its zeal and the Levin Borough Council for sympathetic eonsideration of the band's requests. "I am confident that when we obtain our new instruments the band will continue to increase in strength numerically and raise its standard musically," he added in conclusion.
