The world lightweight champion ike Williams (1351bs) retained the title bv scoring a teehnical knockout againsi Enrique Bolanos (1331bs)' of Mexico, m the fourth round of a bout promoted oy the eomedians Bud Abbott and Lou Costello to help pay off Costello'e 83,000 dollar youth foundation. The gross gate was 106,000 dollars. Williams instead of taking the champion 's usual 40 per cent is accepting only 71 per cent and-. giving the rest tu Costello 's fund, Bolanos will get 17 a per cent. r It was a tense and sayage battle rigni j from thA heU £in ' , the first round.' Williams 's hard straight lef ts and lurk- ; ing rights took the play from the De-j ginning. Bolanos weaved, jabbed ano; danced away with Williams ploddmeafter him. Referee Jack Dempsey stopped the fight 2 minutes 40 seconds after the start of the fourth round. Groggy and half blind, Bolanos rallied desperately and then sank beneath a battery of blows from Williams. It was Williams' third victory ovei Bolanos. He knocked him out in 194( and won a split decision in 1948.
