LONDON, July 22. Reuter 's Rome correspondent says Signor Pietro Nenni, leader of the proCommunist Italian Socialist Party, elaims that the recent Vatican exeommunicaion decree does not apply in any way to Socialists. Writing * in the Socialist review, Mondo Operaio, Signor Nenni says: j "Although the Socia, list doctrine is no less materialist, and in that sense antiChristian tlian the Communist, it is nevertheless a fact that the Vatican mtended to strike not so much at a doctrine as at an action; namely the specific action of Communist parties, especiall.y where they are in power. " He added that if the Ohurcli really intended to carry througli its ex-communica-tiofl. it was embarked on a campaign no less arduous than when it opposed the , French Revolution.
