Farmers Pay Twice With Fertiliser Subsidy

The "alleged" subsidyr on fertiliser was purely |a subsidy fpr the 40-hour five-day week, said the chairman of directors of the Levin Co-operative Dairy Company, Mr. T. G. Vincent, wnen speaking at the annual meeting of the company on Thursday. "Why should we have to subsidise fertiliser out of our own funds," he asked when stating that the subsidies should all come out of the Consolidated Fund. "We are paying twice and it is not in the best interests of the dairy industry. I suggest it is one of the things we should not agree to. We as a board have protested to the Government, but the matter should be given far more publicity by the farming community," said Mr. Vincent. The meeting subsequently re-j solved to protest ^gainst the sub-j sidising of ferthisef^' out of the1 Stabilisation Account.
