WELL1XGTOX, July 19. Of £5 1,000 collected by the Anglican Board of Missions last year, not one penny went towards work among the Maoris, said the Yen. Archdeacon II. W. Monaghan (Palmerston North; when addressing the Wellington Diocesan vSynod. The general position of the Maori Mission today had been brought before the Synod by rhe \ren. Archdeacon E. ,T. Ricli with the object of providing macliinery by which the Board of Missions could assist the present position in Maori development. He moved "that the Synod alflrm the principle that the work of the 'Maori Mission is the priuiarv resnonsibility of the churcli of the province, believes that the controlling bodies of the mission in eacli diocese sliould be coordinat6d missionary societies under the Board of Missions, apd direets the Maori Mission committee to apply for admission as a coordinated missionary organisation of the board." Archdeacon Iticli said it was patent to everybody who read, that a criticai period had been reached for the Maori people. Archdeacon Monaglian said people who gave to missions would be horri(ied it' they knew that all the money subscribed for the Board of Missions last year went to others than Xew Zealand 's own Maori people. Xow was the tiiue for the Board of Missions to come in. The Rev. W. G. Williams said there was 110 macliinery at present by which the claims of the Maori Mission could be brought before Anglican Churcli people as a whole. Other speakers supported a motion that the proposal be circulated to the other dioceses of the province. In view of the seriousness of the situation revealed by statistics xnentioned in tlie youth council report taken in committee at the synod, a select committee was set up to consider the appointmeiit of a youth organiser in holy orders and otlier wavs of meeting the situation.
