Those Who Died On Crete Remembered

WELLINGTON, July 1S. New Zealanders who lost their livo; in the battle for Crete, were honoured in a ceremony held at the Suda Ba,v Cemetery earlier this month when the naval frigate H.M.N.Z.S, Rotoiti called at Crete during her delivery voyage from Britain to New Zealand. The Minister of Defenee, Mr Jones. said to-night that the dav after tlie Rotoiti arrived at the port of Canae, the ship's company, a guard of honour and a bugler, paraded'' at the Suda Bav Cemetery together with a. guard ano' band provided by tha foeal gendarme - rie. The New Zealand Aaval guard wa inspected by the Governor-General ot Crete and wreaths were laid by the ship's offieers and Greek authorities. Messages of goodwill from Sir Beniard Ereyberg and the Prime Minister, M, Fraser, were read and the Mayor ot Canae replied expressing the friendship a'nd alfeetion "of the Cretans for the peo ple of New Zealand.
