Early Morning Bus Service To Wellington?
The recent steps taken by the Otaki Borough Council, following a request from the Otaki Commer.cial Association, to endea/vour to provide a bus service in lieu of the considered inconvehient train service operating between Otaki and We1lington, were again discussed by the council on Wednesday night. Mr. J. S. Ballinger, a director of De Luxe Tours (N.Z.), Ltd., wrote advising that following the request for the service, his company had ilodged an application with the licensing authority for the. licence. The letter stated that 854ner> p.ent
of the shareholders of the company he represented resided in Otaki, and pointed out the advantages apparent from an owner-operated service. Views expressed- favoured an early service, to leave Otaki at 7 a.m., thereby catering for workers who were now making the trip to and from Otaki to Wellington. It was agreed 'to ask the writer if his company ' would be prepared to arrange an early service. During the discussion mention was made of the fact that 22 men leave Otaki daily to work in Wellington, being transported there by motor lorry and returning the same night. Cr. J. Retter emphasised that his support would only be forthcoming for a service' that provided for workers, and not for those wanting a shopping excursion.
