Sutherland (Hauraki) at question time in the House of diepresentaives- today. Mr. Guiherland quoted a report that overtinie work would be refused at all j'orts if demands by watersiders for au aincndment to the regulations goveruing the Waterfront Induatry Authority, were not granted by the Government. He said the watersiders made a similar deinand in 1947 and won the day. Mr. W. H. Fortune (Eden) gave notice to ask the Minister of Finance if he was aware that ofiicers of the Land and Ineome Tax Departinent had been deinanding information under scction 12 of the Finance Act 1948

(No. 2) which fequires a taxpayer Lo furnish in writing any information which the ofiicers think necessary. Mr. Fortune asked the Minister to issue instructions that such information should be demanded only when the Department has ground to suspect that false returns of income have been made. Mr. J. J. Malier (Otaki) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister if he would confer with the Prime Minister of Australia to circumvent the reported pro- ! posed hold-up of shipping in the Paeific (a recent cable said such a hold-up had been discussed by the World Fpderation of Trade Unions.)
