Auckland Carpenters Now Working Well
AUCKLAND, July 14. Good reeovery from the effeets of the prolonged carpenters' dispute, has been made by the building industrv in the Auckland district and with only a small number of carpenters not vet back at work, the trade is almost back to nornial production levels. Some eontractors claim that their output has increasc«l since the carpenters returned following the reg'istration of the new Auckland Carpenters' Union and that this increase in work is due to the enthusiasm of the men. Oue builder stated that since the new carpenters' award had been agreed npon last month, his men had been iiiitch happier and they had been makino a gennine attempt to overcome arrears of work. It had been estimated that during the 1(5 weeks of the carpenters' dispute, ti v e weeks of almost comnlete stojtpage and 11 weeks of low production, almost iAOO.noO worth of building was lost ano t';is could never be recovered but the • mlustry had revived quicker than was i xpccted and building progress was unusually good for the time of the year.
