Import Control Makes Wines And Spirits Scarce
WELLINGTON, July 12. Import control had made wines and spirits almost unprocurabie in New Zea land, said Mr Percy Coyle, a director of the national council of tlie licensed trade, in a statement*to the Licensing Control Commission to-day. Mr OovL said that under the system of import control based on value and not oir quantity, an importer must order quan tity rather than quality in order tu keep up his stocks aud meet demands. " As the- commission cannot recommeua the stoclcing of good products withoiu jalso urging the Gov.ernment to enabie I this to be done, we respectfully urgc consideration of this," he said. He added that with new tourisl house licences there would be the need of additional wine and spirit supplios. The commission 's help in urging a buildinfj priority for liotels next only to housing, was also inentioned by M. Coyle. He pointed out that hotel build ing and renovation had been halt^d fo manv years.
