Escapees' Rise Did Not Succeed
AUCKLAND, July 11. The careful cutting of their trouser^ to give them the appearance- of hikers, proved of no avail to three voung escaped prisoners who broke away from a Waikeria prison working party at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Word was re- ' ceiped by the Te Kuiti police off their 1 being seen in the vieinit.y of Ivio Kiu and they caught them without opposi- ' tion at 8 o'elock to-night, just nortli of Otorohanga. The men, Brian Euward Whitelaw, aged 23, Victor Julius Edwardson, aged 21, and Ronald Keith Metcalfe, aged 19, are now back at Waikeria.
