Opposed To State Aid For Church Schools
WELLINGTON, July 11. Voting unanimously, representatives of 26 school eommittees ~and seven parents' associations in Wellington City, represented by the Wellington School Committees and Educational Association, to-night opposed "any extensiou i of state aid to schools outside the state i education system. " The motion continued: "We feel that if grants are made towards salaries "or'other running t costs of church schools, or alternativelv grants are made to parents of pupiis attending such schools, as proposed in a resolution adopted by the -General Synod of the Church of England in May the nationai system. . . . will be gravely undermined and the standard of education. lowered. Furthermore, we feel that the adoption of the General Synod 's proposal would open the way to the establishment of a separate school system for eacli religious denomination. " A copy of the resolution will be sent to the Minister of Education.
