AUCKLAND, July 11. A suggestion that new blood was necessary in the public taxi business to oyercome Ihe "toughness" ol! drivers Gready in the industry, was made bj Mr Li'sle Alderton to the Metropolitan Uicensing Authority. Alr Alderton was appearing for one of 19 applicants for a taxi licenee and pointed out that his cjient was not a regular tax-i driver. "Most of the applicants elaim that because thev have been in the industry in the past, they should automaticaily have preferenee," said Mr Alderton. "I have had con^iderable experience in the taxi industry and I submit that the fact that a person has been a driver in the past is 110 recomniendation for his licence. I think that, in the interests of the taxi industry and eommunity, we should get some new blood in drivers who are nqt as tough, may I say, as the old ones. ' '
