"Chiang Kai-shek and President Quirino, of the Philippines, are discussing the possible framework of some sort of defensive association of frce peoples in the Pacific. President Rhee, of Korea, has already put hiinself on record as favourable to sueh an arrangement and it has been vvidely discussed in Australia. The I'nited States has indicated that it does not favour a frontal approach to that problem through diseussion at this time, of a Pacific Pact but the exploration of the idea is going i'orward among the Pacific peoples."
