Anti-Conscription Sticker On Pews

V , WELLINGTON, JuLy 10. Anti-eonseription stiekers were i'ound on the baeks of pews at St. Barnabas ' Angliean Church, Khandallah," shortly before the 8 o'eloek service began this morning. Leafiets were also found in the church. The vicar, the Kev. C. R. Kreeft, said the stiekers and leafiets liad evidently been placed in the church between 4 p.m. on Saturday when he left the church, and about 7.45 a.m. today. A. yestryman said that members of the ' congragation who had mentioned the question to him, were very indignant that the church should have been used in this way for the distribution of propaganda material on the referenduin. Probably 40 stiekers were put on the backs of the pews, he said. A similar nuniber of leafiets was fonnd. These bore the name of the New Zealand Peace and Anti-Conscription Federation. The stiekers m'easured about

three by two inches. The Wellington Central poiiee said tonight that they had received no eompl'aints about anti-eonseription xnaterial in churehes. Stiekers with anti-conscription messages have also been seen in the last few days in Wellington on.such places as lamp posts and telephone booths and at tram stops. At Lower Hutt "no eonscription" slogans have been clialked on walls in a number of places. In some cases the "no" has been erossed out by returned servicemen.
