Hawke's Bay Hockey Reps. To Play Horowhenua

Considerable local and district intere'st' appears; to be shown in the visit on Saturday of ladies' and men's- represehtatiVe hockey ■ teams from Hawke's Bay. They will meet Horowhenua representatives on the Otaki Domain, the ladies'. match being scheduled to start at 1.45 p.m., with the men's game following at. ,3 p.m. The sportsmanship of the visitors in making the long trip is commendable, especially as the Horowhenua Hockey Association is making valiant efforts for the game of hockey to regain the prominent footing it held formerly in the district. The visitors will be the guests of the Horowhenua association at a dance to be held at Te Horo in the evening, when local enthusiasts will have a- further opportunity of supporcing the efforts of the Horo-1 whenua association. Of partieular interest to Otakiites is the inclusion in the visiting ladies' team of Mrs. Cotterili, nee Miss Tui Bevan, who graded fairly high as a player ' for Otaki when hockey was -booming in 'the dis--trict in pre-war years. Spectators can ,look forward to two very keen contests * when the teams take the field. Horowhenua men have had three recent oppor■Lunities of comparing their play with that of outside provinces, and there were many, both men and ladies, who acquitted themselves admirably when taking part in the recent tournament at Feilding. Win or lose the experience to be gaine'd by local teams from such visits'must be invaluable and as a result next year will doubtless see continued improvement by local and district teams of a s&andard which will warrant their competing against the best. Horowhenua teams for Saturday are as follows: — Ladies: B. Hakaraia (goalie), M. Bishop and*B. Morgan (backs), M. Ransfield, F. Royal and T. Rikihana (half-backs) , I. Tyree (wing), O. Kingi (inside) , B. Henderson (centre), M. Bevan (inside) and F. McKenzie (wing) . Emergeney, R. Hakaraia. The captain is B. Henderson. ■ ... , Men: A. Y. Cottle (goalie) , T. Rossen "(l.eft'bhck), 51. Leask (right back) , R: Hunter Ceft half) , G. Shirnack (centre. half), B. Walker (right half) , K. Hunter (left wing) F. Thorpe (left inside) , R. Windley' Jnr.
