Third Zealandic.
The 9904-ton steamer Black Prince, which visited Auckland last year, is making her first voyage from Liverpool to Aus/ralia under her new name— -Zealandic. This is her third christening, for she was built in 1943 as the Empire Regent. The Zealan'die is the third , ship of that name under the control of the Shaw Savill and Albion Line, which took her over from the associated company, the Rio Cap'e Line, :i The .first was built in 1911, and as the Mamari was taken over. hy the Admiralty at the out- . break of World War 11 and con- . . verted into. a representation of the ai'rcraft-carrier *- Hermes. Shortly after her reteomverslon to a re— frigerated , ship in 1941 She was wrecked on the East Apglian coast. She was later torpedoed and bombed several' times. The second Zea,landic, a motorship built in 1928, was stmk three "days out from Liverpool in 1941 on her way to Australia. All her passengers and crew were lost— full details oLthe disaster have never been revealed.
