AUCKLAND, June 30. A civil servant who admitted that he toolc £3000 from the Social Security De partment in Auckland in June and losi ali of if in three davs of betting at the Auckland Racing Club's Kinfe's Birtbday meeting while he was attempting to recover a sum of £3200 which he had misappropriated previously, came before Justices of tlie Peace. today. He was -Anthony Callaglian, aged 40, former head cashier of _ the SociaJ Security Department in Auckland. Accnsed admitted a cliarge of stealing £6329 between March_15, 4948, and - June 17, 1949, while lie was a servant in'the employ of. the % New. Zealand Government. Accused admitted the cliarge and was committed to tlie Stipreme Coui't for sentence. He was allowed bail.
