Manakau won their ' match against Ohau in the first round of the Horowhenua Badminton Association's A grade competition. Manakau secured 11 of the 18 games and s.cored 270 poinfcs to 170. Pigrim 21—8, S. Ridge lost to P. Candy 18—21. . Ladies' singles: Mrs. W. Phillips lost to Miss M. Karauti 2 — 15, Mrs K. Phillips beat Mrs. P. Candy 15 — 13, Miss-E. Leen lost to Miss W. Murray 6—15, Miss R. Robinson beat Miss J. Hudson 15 — 4. Men's singles: M. and L. Staples beat Fanning and Honore 21—14, Ridge and Bryant beat Pilgrim and Candy 21 — 5. Ladies' doubles: Mesdames W. and K. Phillips lost to Miss Karauti and Mrs. Candy 13 — 15, Misses-Leen and Robinson beat Misses Murray and Hudson 15 — 4. Combined doubles: L. Staples and Mrs. W. Phillips beat Fanning and Miss Karafiti 21 — 13, M. Staples jand Mrs. K.. Phillips lost to Honore and Mrs. Candy 18 — 21,' Bryant and Miss Leen beat Pilgrim and Miss Murray 21—8, Ridge and Miss Robinson beat Candy and Miss Hudson 21 — 2.
