A yein grafting operation which is expetced to spare many accident victim froxn amputations, ,was ^erf ormed successf ully at the Pennsylvania';Hqspital, Philadelphia, today. It involves transplanting yfhole sectiong of a* vein to replace injttre'd or " missing arteries in other parts 0f the hody. Doctors said the vein graft can. he used in emergency treatment ' wlieri the arteri4s are ruptured or torn out, and also for persons suffering Afroin hlood clots. •• In the operation performed today sections of veins from -the thigh of a patient were grafted to fill gaps in chest arteries.
