Hockey Results. The following are the- results of Saturday's competition hockey games: — Men: Levin 8, Coits 1; Rahui 5, Kimberley A 2. Ladies: Raukawa 5, Levin 2; Rahui^4, College 1. Unfortunate Trouble. The most exeellent supper arrangements made for the National Party's ball on Frrday night were somewhat marred, through no fault on the part of the committee, by- trouble with the use of the gas fitments. However, the gasworks manager, Mr, A. C. Kennerley, was promptly on the scene and the arrangements were soon funetioning smoothly. "There is still a great deal of cruelty practised in this country," said the president, Mr. H. P. Bridge, at a meeting of the Christchurch Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Many people complained about .cruelty to animals and asked what the society was doing; but when they were asked to give evidence they would not come forward. "Even where cases have been proved, many get off with light sentences," Mr. Bridge added. It was reported that 80 cases of alleged ill-treatment to animals had been investigajfced during the last six months. Bulk Coconut Oil. For the first time coconut oil was loaded at Suva in bulk into an j overseas vessel at the beginmng of ; this month, says the Fijian News j Bulletin. The Meadowbank took j 1091 tons of coconut oil from Suva : on consignment to the British ! Ministry of Food. The oil was I pumped through pipe lines into a j flexible hose which led to the ves- ' sel's 'deep tanks.
