National Party Ready For Political D-Day
WELLINGTON, June* 27. "It is not to be expected that our conference today ' wiil ' have the dramatic iews value such as resulted from the recent Labour conference," said the president, Mr. W. J. Sim; K.C., in open'ing his a'ddress at the annual conference of the National Party. "This conference is of a united organisation. W6 have not internal quarrels upon SUch . %lementary questions as obedience to the law of the land, and in the carpenters' dispute we unhesitatingly favour and support those who are seeking to conform to the law-abiding processes established under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. "In the matter of the country^s defence and preparedriess for war, the National Party has. no need to debate its attitu'de. The i party wouto support. unanimously any Bill introduced immediately for the establishment of universal military training in the shape recommended by the country's' leading military experts. "Throughout the country we can affirrn a unity of organisation and purpose, and the National Party is ready to move on at the end of this year to what will be D-Day in New Zealand's political history. The united strength of the party, in Parliament and out of it, and its eollective experience in all praetical matters affecting the welf are of the Sfate, will furnish a guarantee of a stable an*d reliable Government,- if the electors, in whose hands the matter rests, decide to make the change this year.'-' \
