Happy Birthday Party

A large number of friends and relations of Mr. and -Mrs. W. Bailey, of Otaki Railway, gathered at the social room of the Otaki Textiles factory on Saturday to celebrate the coming-of-age of their younger daughter, Zelda ("Teddy"). Mr. and Mrs. Bailey received their guests, Mrs. Bailey wearing a frock of black silk rayon, with a spray of red roses. Miss Zelda Bailey was dressed in pink figured taffeta. Master of ceremonies was Mr. H. MacDougall, of Wellington, and dancing was freely indulged in to music supplied by Mrs. Geo. Gray, novelty dance winners being Mrs. W. Cole and Mr. B. Roberts and Miss Zelda Bailey and Mr. W. Cole. Vocal items by Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilton and family helped tq add to the enjoyment of the evening, and the presentation to Miss Bailey of a beautiful spray of violets and .maidenhair fern by the oldest 'couple in the room, Mr. and Mrs. C. Thomas, of Rahui Road, was a gesture much appreciated. A very appetising savoury supper was served and during the interlude the toast of the guest of the evening was honoured. Mr. Bailey, in handing his daughter the traditional key, signed by all present, thanked all for attending, with special praise for the many willing helpers responsible for the sucees's of the function. • Miss Bailey, in returning thanks, expressed her appreciation of the many kindnesses extended and assured all that she was truly thankful, at the same time expressing regret that Mr. K. Hager had been prevented from attending. A handsome birthday cake, made by Mrs. Bailey and beautifully decorated by Mr. G. M. Kirk, was then cut, and further toasts honoured. The gathering was brought to a conclusion at a late hour with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." Among the many guests present were: Mr. and Mrs. F. Lima and their three daughters, of Palmerston North; Mr. and Mrs. H. MacDougall, of Wellington; Mr. .and Mrs. H. Bailey and family, o'f Upper Hutt; Mr. and Mrs. E. Ward, of ■ Wellington; and a'so friends from Featherston, Hawke's Bay and Manakau.
