Gladiolus Club Elects Its First Officers
A meeting of , the . newly-f ormed Horowhenua Giadio'us Club was. held last week to elect officers for the year and hear an address by Mr. A. W. Jensen, of Manakau. There was a good attendance and several apolbgies were received-. Mr. Jansen choose for his subject "The Breeding of Giadiolus," des'crifiing. in detail the most sultab:e tyfie tb use as pbll'eh and seed parents, how to select the most nromising sbedlingS to grow oh to prodiiic'e the heW vr.ri'etie^, ..whether for exhibition or decorative nurposes.. He also * answered many question, after which there ,was a generai discussion. Mr. Jenson Was accbrd'ed a heafty v'bte bf thanks., which was carried by accramatibn. The elfection of officers, held over from the inaugural meeting, resulted as follows;— Prasident: Mr. R. (3-. Smith; vice-presideht- and secretary: Mr. V.: G. Hunter; committee : Messrs G. ' Wharton, S. G. Taylor and €. R. Hosia. it was decided to hold -meetings on the second Wednesday in each month, the next to be on Julv 13 at which a talk and diseussion on what to do for giadiolus in July. This wifi be a feature each month ahd it will help those interested tb ,get the best out 'of their gladi"bius. ' f ' - ' '• '
