Falla,' at a meeting last night of the New Zealand Geographieal Society, when a film of the notorms 'was showm. . , . ^However, I thmk there'is little dohbt that the huia has g'one," Dr Falla remarked. The reason for its disappearance he'attributed to several canses and not merely to the depredations of seekers after huia skins for commercial exploitation. Although literally hundreds of skins were in different colleetions throughout the world, relatively little researeh had been undertaken on ; the huia. New Zealand 's most outstanding bird was the Kiwi which, he said, would probably remain for ever a puzzle to biologists. "No Ngw Zealand bird is less known despite the fact it is our national emblem," he commented. "I hope every effort will be made to proi tect the remnant. It is probably the most interesting'of our birds structnrally to scientists. ' ' .
