Advanced Design In Atomic Bombs
Received Thursdav 7 p.m. WASHINGTON, June 15. The United States Atomic Energy Comaiission's plant at Hanford, WWMfcgton State, will start producing the explosive core of an advanced design of atomic bomh, on an assenfbly line basis, on June 27. The commission 's chairman, Mr David Lilienthal, to-dav said the effectiveness of the new bomb was pro xred a vear ago at highly secret tests at Eniwetok. The commission will be ab'e to make the whole of the exnDsive core at Hanford for the first t.ime and add rmicklv to its stockpile of atomic bombs. The Hanford plant has been producing plutonium whicli is the lieart of the bomb but it has never made the comrdete cores. Mr Lilienthal said the cost had been subordinated to speed at Han ford because the new facilities would mcrease the atomic bomb stockpile.
