Chess Club's Opening

The Levin District Chess Club had a good opening on Monday at the home of the president, Mr. S. S. McMinn. Fourteen members were in attendance. The club captain, Mr. R. Woodfield, provided a ladder and explained ladder rules to members, also giving an outline of future acavities for the season. That members appreciated an i opporturiity for organised chess was evident by the surprising number of games completed by some of them. Play next Monday evening will be at the home of Mr. J. Perigo? Churchill Street. During the season the club will organise short lectures on various aspects of the game and arrange visits from prominent players. Participation in club tournaments is also planned.
