Yeates Wins Cycle Race To Foxton And Return
— ^ Last Saturday's road race from Levin to Foxton and return drew a field of nine, Don Yeates' winning in a strong finish from J. Taylor and H. Donovan. Fastest time wes recorded by John Taylor, who clocked 1 hr 3 mins, the other two scratch riders being on'y a matter of seconds tehind. The handicaps were as follows: Alan Rolston and Tamihana (8 mins), Owen Connolly and Trev Searanke (3-|- mins) , Don Yeate; and Ross Harper (1£ mins), John Taylor, Malcolm Harper and Harry Donovan (scratch) . Tamihana had trouble with his bike at the start and did not compete. A'an Ro^ on retired at Foxton after having gone the 13£ miles iri front, being joined just before entering Foxton by Connolly, Searanke, Yeates and R. Harper. Through Foxton the first bunch was headed by Ross Harper, with the three scratch men a short distance back. Ross Harper retirea shortly after Ieaving Foxton and at Poroutawhao the six remaining riders were together. They stayed together, Malcolm Harper taking one long lap of about three miles until the finish, ^ when Don Yeates forged .ahead to win strongly from Taylor, with Donovan, M. Harper, Connolly and Searanke next, only about four yards separating the entire field. Next Saturday, if the weather is fine, a race roumt the triangle, Levin-Shannon-Foxton-Levin, wil be held, otherwise to Te Horo and return. Points prizes for the first month have been won as follows: — J. Taylor 1, Searanke and P. Eliiott (equal) 2. The prizes for fastest time went to' O. Connolly (first) j and M. Harper (second) .
