South African Rugby Union obtained guarantees from various unions totalling £25,000 to meet the costs of the tour. The unions retain aity margin above their guarantee. In addition, the unions, which have Test matclies pay a percentage of the net takings above the guarantee into a common fund which is later apportioned among other unions. Gate charges are fixed by the unions, not by the South African Board, and top prices for the Tests range from 30s to £2. There have been estimates that the tour takings will exceed £100,000. The South African manager for the All Blacks (Mr. "Bo" Wintle) offei;ed the manager (Mr. J. H. Parker) a new hat on "any pccasion when the previoas attendance reeord was not beaten. "It does not look as though I will get a new hat," said Mr. Parker. Allen and Elvidge have been withdrawn from the team to plav Border. Kearney replaees Allen and will captain the side. Boggs replaees Elvidge at centre.
