WELLINGTON, June 14. New Zealand s "Great Grandmother Hiker," Mrs. Kitty CSullivan, aged 68, returned from Sydney today by the Monowai with defmite plans for going to America. Her ambition is to cross the United States by foot. If she finds that some other gTeat grandmother has done it before, she is out to reduce the time. Her late§t exploit, from which she has just returned, was a walk from Biisbcne to . Sydney. Preceded by four months' intensive gymnasium training she took from I February 11 to March 30 to cover ,the 667 mi'es, having six half-days : off for resting her feet and and beI ing held up two whole days by floods. She left Brisbane with £7 ' in her purse and arrived in Sydney j with 4s 2d. j Mrs. O'Sullivan paid tribute to j the hospitality of the people en route. Seventeen years ago Mrs. O'Sullivan walked from one end of New Zealand to the other and before the last war, at the age of 57, she walked from Land's End to John o' Groats, an 881-mi"e trek, taking 34 days. She is about five feet in height and weighs eight stone.
