House Removal Delays Train
• "Ihe- Railways passengers service was held up and a train at Paekakariki was delayed as a resuit," said Traffic Inspector R. B. DOggett, of Paekakariki, when testifying in a case in 'uhe Magistrate's Court, Otaki, when George Wagstaff was charged with operating a vehicle with a load of excessive width. Defendant was moving a house and the inspector, after ordering the encumbrarice off the road, gave a hahd and it took 11£ hours to tow three-quarters of a mile. Telegraph poles had to be removed to get the house, which was 32ft long, 24ft 6in wide an*d 17ft 6ins high, off the road aji; Paraparaumu Beach. Photcgraphs were produced in support of the Inspector's statements. He stressed that defendant had on former occasions been advised to get the necessary. permit for jobs of 'Lhis type. "This man was doing a wonderful job helping the housing prob;em, and it has its compensations," said the magistrate, Mr. A. A. McLachlan, adding that it was equa]ly necessary to get a permit for a country road as it was for a main highway job. A fine of £2, with costs 10s, was inflicted.
