New Airliner Visits Dominion
AUCKLAND, June 9. A Canadair-Four ■ airliner, the first. of its kind to land in New Zealand, arrived at Whenuapai from Sydney this morning. Aboard were ' 19 representative of Canadian Pacific Airlines wlio have been toui'ing the Pacific preparing a route for a service from Vancouver to Sydney starting on July 13.
It was originally planned to include New Ze.aland in the service by flying the Tasman and returning to Yaneouver from Auckland, but this is now unlikely. Neither B.C.P.A. nor PanA.merican Airways is allowed to operate across'the Tasman. It is lioped a conneeting service would be arranged from Fiji so that New Zealand would not be completely by-passed. The Canadair-Four looks like a cross
between the DC6 and the Skymaster (DC4). Its only major distinctions are four Koils Royee engines, whiah. have longer and sleeker naeelles than the Douglas engines. Fully pressurised, the Canadair-Four crnises at 300 miles an hour at 18,000 *f eet. It has sleeperette aceommodation for 36 passengers. The plane landed at. Ohakea yesterday, and left at 9 o 'clock last light for Fiji direet. . .
