Yeates Wins Road Race Of 26 Miles

J.11C1C wcic liiiic ouai ucio in oauurday's road race over a distance of 26 miles from Levin to Otaki and return, D. Yeates winning from F. Searanke and H. Donovan fifiing third place*. Fastest time was registered by M. R. Harper (1 hr. lO.mins.). Other times were H. Donovan (1 hr. 12 mins.) , D. Yeate? and Searanke (1 hr. 13 mins.), A. Rolston (1 hr. 20i mins.), I. Capper (1 hr. 21 mins.). The handicaps were: Ian Capper and Alan Ro'ston (12 mins.), F. Searanke and Don Yeates (seven mins.) , Harry Donovan and' Roy Hornig ( six mins.), John Taylor, Ross Harper and Malcolm Harper (scratch). The limit men, Capper and Rolston, showed a great improvement on last week's performance and should do well before the end of the season. Shortly after leaving Levin, Donovan left Hornig, who was having his first race of the season, and caught up with Yeates and Searanke at Manakau. At Otaki, Yeates, Searanke apd Donovan had caught up with the limit mep and the scratch men, R. Harper, J. Taylor and M. Harper, had just caught Hornig when Taylor was forced to retire with a puncture. At this stage the scratch nien had made up about two minutes. Yeates, Searanke and Donovan kept together, the limit men dropping back, and in a strong finish Yeates won from Searanke, with Donovan third. ,They were followed shortly afterwards by Rolston, Capper and Malcolm and Ross Harper, Hornig finishing a short time after the. scratch men.
