Farm Hand Who Converted Bicycle Fined
Charged with the unlawful conversion of * a bicycle at Levin on June 7, the property of Donald Arthur George, a farm hand, Wally Winiata, of Foxton Road, appeared in the Police Court, Levin this morning before Messrs D. J. Gardiner and G. Sweetman, J.P.'s, and was convicted and fined £3. Sergeant W. Grainger informed the Bench that the complainant left his bicycle in Oxford Street about 1 p.m. and on going for it at 3 p.m., found it missing. As the result of inquiries made by Constable W. R. Gillespie, it had been ascertained that defendant had been seen with a similar- -bicycle and, when interviewed by Constable A. T. Kelk at his home yesterday, the bicycle had been located there. The accused had admitted having converted it. This type of offence was rather prevalent in the district and a tiifficult one to detect, added Sergeant Grainger. In inflicting the fine, the Bench issued a warning that the penalties would be mu?h more severe in the future,
