Quick Thinking And Courageous Mother

Received Monday, 10.45 p.m. NEW YORK, June 5. A mother gave her life to save four sons trapped on a railway bridge in the path of a speeding freight train. Mrs. Ruth Merryman, aged about 45, pushed her sons, aged 10 and 12, off the centre span into the river as the train came pounding across the bridge. The younger pair, aged 8 and 4, started to- run. She caught and pushed tjiem on to the gravel of the river bank below. • It was too late to save herself ana the skidding engine knocked her off the hridge and killed her. The two who dropped into the river were unharmed. The younger hoys suffered minor injuries.
