WELLINGTON, June 7. The public can be assured that new seats will be provided on maui line express trains a& soon aa possible and that these seats will be much superior in comfort and convenience to 1946 patterns, said a Railways Department statement today,. Since purely experimenta' tests in 1946 when, questionnnaires were submitted to passengers on trial seats, the Department has built and tested a number of improved types and the final design • has been accepted, the statement 1 added. Before embarking upon the ; very considerable expenditure in- / volved ' in fltting new seating, the j Department was awaiting a report jfrom the railways' technical mission at present overseas.
