Messrs. Barnes And Hill On The Mat Again
WELLINGTON, June 3. Written undertakings that the president and secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union (Messrs Barnes and Hill) in future would not publish reports 'of discussions at meetings of the Waterfront Industry . Authority. were sought, it is understood, by the Authority when it met in Wellington to-day.- The Authority, it is also understood, sought an apology for certain published statements and asked for an undertaking from Messrs Barnes and Hill to refrain from publishing matter dorogatory to the Authority or any of its members, The resolution, proposed by the chairman of the Authority (Judge Dalglish) and reported to have been adopted, asked that he be authorised, if written apologies and undertakings were not given, to report the circumstances to the Government and to advise that the Authority could not satisfactorily carry out its functions and would be unable to do so unless all the members were prepared to act with propriety and abide by the Authority 's decisions.
