AUCKLAND, June 3. No full-scale revival of the building tndustry in the Auckland distriet has followed the registration of the new Carpenters' Union. Inquiries to-day revealed that there were still severe shortages of carpenters on jobs affecting housing. health in various forms and the conversion of the Auckland tramway system to trolley buses. Advertisements for carpenters have shown a eonsiderable increase in the last f ew days, however, and some firms have liopes that their staffs will be: brought up to strength again before long. Nevertheless the extent of the shortage is revealed by one firm advertising for 60 carpenters. Others are known to be just as seriously sliort of staff. , No work has been donc on many State houses in eourso of construction since the mass dismissal of carpenters in February. .Others are being pushed ahead' as more and more men return to work, but it is estimated that the carpenters available on this class of building do not exeeed on larger contracts one third of tlie number needed.
