Licensing Committee Meets In Levin
The annual meeting of the Otaki Licensing Committee was held . m the Levin Courthouse yesterday, Mr. A."A. McLachlan, S.M., presiding. In connection with the ' Jubilee Hotel, Otaki, Mr. B. H. Rhodes, appearing for the licensee, Torrfehce Alexander McFetridgb, inforhied the' committee that' McFetridge had now become the owner of the hotel and he had had certain major repairs carried out. Work was already proceeding on the remainder, which would be cdhipleted in the near future, and he assured the committee that when this was done there would be no further trouble with the conditioii of the hotel. The chairman said it was pleasihg to find the position would be satifactory, and granted the licence accordihgly. Dealing with the application of John Alexander Eustace in respect of the renewal of the licence for the Central Hotel, Otaki, the
chairman remarked that repofts from both' the Health Department and the Police showed' that the building was in ari unsatisfaetory state of repair. The position had beeh considered- by the committee and it was not prepared to gf ant licence applied for urider the existing conditions. After hearing submissions by Mr. Regan, of Wellington, for the licensee, and Mr. J. P. Bfertram (acting on instructions from counsel for the owner, Mr. J. Kelliher) that_ an agreement fegarding the repairs had been entered into, the committee adjourned the application until the September mefeting, expl-essing the opinion that the repairs should be done by thefi. A wine seller's licence was gfanted to Leslie Weston Morrah of Waikanae. The renewal of a wholesale licence was granted to W. Bull, Ltd., Levin. Renewals of existing publicans' licences were granted to ThornasFisher, provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt; Edward Stephen Flannagan Trentham Hotel, Upper Hutt1' Gerald John MacCormac, Paekakariki Hotel; Robert Alan, Manakau Hotel; Ernest Curtis, Grand Hotel Levin; Ernest Frederick .Ward' Levin Hotel, Levin; Thomas Veraon Cahill, Telegraph Hotel, Otaki; Josejh Dengil Cooksley, Family Hotel, Otaki, and Alexander Watt Railway Hotel, Otairi.
