- V ' DUNEDIN, June 3. A prqperty'uf 1200 acres kncwn as Invermay at Nqrth Taieri will be taken over by the Government as an agricultural experimental and research station fer Otage. This announeement was made by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Cullen) in opcning the Winter Show today. He added that a separate •station would. later be established in Southland. The South Island has long felt the want 'of a properly equipped and fully staffed research station as specimens and inquiries must now be sent to the North Island for examination. ■ Invkrmay met the needs of sueh a project it was claimed when the property was first advanced for consideration as it is handy to road and rail transport and borders the Taieri Aerodrome. A large staff of scientists will eb able to work in close liaison with the skilled university staff in Dunedin. The property embraces hill and heavy flat land essential for research experiments.
