With a total rainfall of 2.31 inches, the month just- concluded provides a striking contrast with ast year, when just four times as much rain was recorded. Again there w6re ten days on which rain fell iast month, as compared with 19 last year. ' The highest rainfall last month was 76 points on the 8th, and there were some -paiAicu arly fine days, with the weatner barometer reading cahn at 9.30 a.m. on 22 days throug'hout the month. There was a noticeable absence of wind, especia ly wind of any force, but a reminder of the approach of winter was given when eight frosi,s were recoraed, some of them slight however. " Snow fell on . the ranges during a southerly on the 10th and again on the 12th; followed by some cold night temperatures.. A sharp earthquake jol'fc was felt at 6.30 a.m. .on the 3rd, with anoth'er slight but more prolonged shock at 6.15 a.m. on the 30th. Mr. F. H. Critchley, of Tasman Beach, who recorded these hgures, advises that officially winter commences on June 22.
